Bali
Bali, December 2006
Wow! Bali is beautiful. I had no expectations for Bali before I visited it, but I can now say that I will have to visit again. It is such a rich mixture of cultures and heritage. Kuta Beach is like any surfer town...and there are many classic surfing spots around Bali. The food is like Thailand...but Indonesian style...of course! It's a very tropical and humid climate, and many European and Australian visit Bali today.
The last two pictures on the second page of this pictorial is devoted to a monument erected after the Bali Bombings...but there is much more to Bali than this tragic event. Bali was a Dutch colony for about four centuries; today it is apart of Indonesia. Many Indian workers came to Bali during the colonial period, and as a result, over 70% of the population are Hindu today, with Muslim and Buddhists rounding out the population.
Bali today is a very tolerant and open society. As you tour the island you will see many beautiful temples and religious symbols from Hinduism, Islam, and Buddhism...and other religions as well. If you want to visit something truly unique and special, Bali is it!
